About LVB

LVB was formed in 1988 by two Bastrop educators and initially operated out of their homes.  By 1989, we qualified as an affiliate of Literacy Volunteers of America, Inc.  In 2002, LVB gained national accreditation with Literacy Volunteers of America.  A merger of Literacy Volunteers of America and Laubach Literacy in 2002 led to the formation of ProLiteracy America.  In 2004, LVB received its own 501(c)(3) non-profit status.  LVB continues to be an affiliate of ProLiteracy America.

Since our founding in 1988, LVB has provided many thousand hours of free tutoring for adult students in our community through our Basic Reading, English as a Second Language, GED preparation, U.S. Citizenship and Workplace Literacy programs.  We owe our success to the hundreds of community members who have volunteered their time to support our mission, and to the many individuals and businesses who have given financial support to make our work possible.

In order to provide the best services to our students, LVB has formed collaborations with a number of other local service providers and organizations.  These collaborations include:  City of Bastrop, Community Action, Inc., Advocacy Outreach, Inc., Texas Workforce Solutions of Bastrop County, Head Start, Bastrop Public Library, Bastrop Independent School District and Bastrop County.
